This programme is designed for counsellors/psychotherapists who hold an adult practitioner qualification and would like to extend their knowledge and experience in counselling children and young people and is written in line with The Competency Framework for Working with Children and Young People produced by National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

PC Counselling and Training Ltd Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People and adheres to the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) Code of Ethical Practice.
The course is designed to educate and prepare qualified counsellors to work safely and ethically, through a variety of teaching methods and styles that are unique and different to training in an educational establishment, to explore some of the additional competencies required to work with children and young people between the ages of 4 years and 24 years.

To achieve this qualification you must pass all 13 units to achieve the Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. Delivery and assessment will include formative assignments; skills practice/applied theory work; large and small group work; learner led research and presentation activities; reflective journals and group project. All units must be complete to achieve the full qualification. The course involves practical, creative and self reflective learning and is delivered face to face.
The course will be delivered for 5 hours a day over 28 weeks term time only.

This course is more practice based than academic and is assessed via a range of written and recorded methods, presented as a portfolio of evidence at the end of the course.
A range of written assignments are required, with the addition of self and peer assessments, tutor assessments of work in the classroom environment, groups projects and learner presentations.
All work is Quality Reviewed at the end of each academic year to ensure work meets the requirements of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society's accreditation standards.
Students are not required to become members of NCPS but are encouraged to do this once they have enrolled with PC Counselling and Training Ltd at a reduced rate for students.
The course also includes 50 hours of one to one, face to face, counselling with children or young people.
Once learners have completed all the work for all the units of the course and have accrued the required 50 supervised placement hours, the learner will then be a qualified practitioner and be able to work as a counsellor for themselves in private practice or for an organisation.
Government funding is not available for this course.

Learners must pay a non refundable deposit at the start of the course to secure their place, followed by 5 monthly interest free payments. Other payment options are available but must be agreed by the Director prior commencement of the course and will incur interest charges.
